#VazhaipooFingers - #BananablossomFingers : Yesterday evening I was grinding batter for idly. I was scratching my head what snack to prepare for the evening coffee. I opened my fridge without any particular plan. Then I saw the florets of banana blossm. Then an idea struck me!!
Here is how I proceeded
Ingredients :
1/2 cup Urad dal batter [ scoop out while grinding for idly ]
1 Tbsp Rice Flour
1/4 Tsp Shahjeera
1/8 Tsp Omam [ ajwain in Hindi, carom or thymol seeds in English ]
1/4 Tsp Pepper freshly crushed
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
10 to 15 Banana flower, remove the center thick stem
Method :
Heat a kadai with enough oil over a medium flame.
Take all the above ingredients in a basin.
Moisten your hand and mix well.
Do not add water.
Take a flower coat with batter and slowly slide into hot oil.
Try to fry 5 to 6 flowers dipped in batter.
Stir with a ladle to cook well on all sides.
Remove from oil when it turns golden brown color.
Transfer on to a plate lined with kitchen tissue and allow the oil to drain.
Crispy tasty Vazhaipoo fingers ready.
Why are you waiting?!! Enjoy!!.... with a hot coffee.
Note : Use florets taken from 5 or 6 bracts inside. Outer ones are stronger in astringent taste compared to inner ones. One more thing is the inner florets cook faster than outer florets.
