#MurungaikaiKatharikkaiKoottu - #DrumstickBrinjalLentil :
#Drumstick and #Katharikkai combination is one of the best combinations for preparing tasty sambar and also koottu. We have already seen the preparation of sambar with this combo. Palakkottai [ Jackfruit seed ] can also be added to this recipe. Koottu is a thick gravy prepared using vegetables and lentils adding coconut paste. It is one of the items made for lunch. Koottu is a side dish for sambar rice and rasam rice just like stir fry/curry. Let us see the preparation here now.
Ingredients :
1/3 Cup Green gram dal [ moong dal ]
1 Drum stick
1 Brinjal
1 small size Onion
2 cloves Garlic
1/4 cup Coriander leaves nicely chopped
3/4 Tsp Sambar Powder
1 pinch Turmeric Powder
3/4 Tsp Salt [ adjust ]
To Grind :
3 Tsp Coconut scrap
1/4 Tsp Cumin seeds
4 - 5 Black pepper corns
1/4 Tsp Rice flour
To Temper :
1/4 Tsp Onion vadagam
1/2 Tsp Oil
Method :
Grind the given ingredients to grind into a nice paste by adding enough water.
Keep aside.
Wash and take green gram dal in a pressure cooker.
Add 3/4 cup of water and a pinch of turmeric powder.
Pressure cook for 3 whistles and 3 minutes at SIM.
Open only after the steam has subsided completely. Keep aside.
Take all the given ingredients except coriander leaves and cooked dhal in a vessel.
Add 1/2 cup of water.
Mix well with a ladle.
Cook on a medium flame until murungaikai becomes soft.
Add coconut paste, cooked dhal and coriander leaves.
Keep over a medium flame and cook for 5 minutes or until required consistency.
Transfer into a serving bowl.
Temper onion vadagam and place over the koottu.
This is an excellent side dish for sambar rice and rasam rice.
If this koottu is made little more watery, then it can be mixed with white rice and relished with any kara curry or any pickle
or onion fryums.
