Even in this hot Summer I got a big bunch of fresh coriander from market. Even after making chutney a considerable amount of coriander leaves were left over. So I decided to add a good amount of coriander leaves in the pongal. The taste was so good with nice aroma of coriander leaves. I would like to share the recipe with you all.
The pongal from the given ingredients mentioned below is enough for three persons.
Ingredients :
3/4 cup Kodo Millet
1/4 cup Green gram dal
2 Green chilly, split into two
1/2 cup Coriander leaves
5 cloves Garlic, chop nicely
1/4 inch Ginger smashed
1 Tsp Cumin
1 Tsp Black Pepper
1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
1 Tsp Salt [ adjust ]
To Temper :
1/2 Tsp Cumin
12 Black Pepper
10 Curry leaves
1 Tsp Ghee
1 Tsp Gingelly oil
Save some coriander leaves to garnish.
Method :
Wash Varagarisi [ kodo millet ] and dal together in a vessel.
Remove any sand particles or stone from it.
Now transfer washed rice and dal into a pressure cooker.
Add all the other given ingredients into the cooker.
Add 3 1/2 cup of water.
Close the lid with weight on and cook for one whistle on HIGH flame.
Then reduce the flame to SIM and cook for 7 minutes.
Open the cooker only after the steam has been completely subsided.
Mix well with a ladle.
Heat a kadai with oil and ghee.
Splutter cumin and then add black pepper.
Then add curry leaves and turn off the stove.
Pour the tempering over the prepared pongal.
Add coriander and mix well.
Serve hot with pongal thuvaiyal
or any chutney of your choice adding a dash of ghee.
